Heads Together #MHAW16

Mental Health Awareness Week 2016 (1)

This week (16th-22nd May) is Mental Health Awareness Week – focusing on the theme of relationships. As someone who lives with mental illness I wanted to mark the week by sharing my own thoughts and experience of mental health – the good and the bad. I also wanted to raise further awareness of the fantastic events and conversations taking place to support Mental Health Awareness Week 2016.

Heads Together

There’s been multiple events across the UK today – notably the launch of Heads Together – a mental health campaign led by charities such as MindYoungMinds and more:

Heads Together

Heads Together is a campaign that aims to end stigma around mental health and to help change the national conversation on mental wellbeing.

“Their Royal Highnesses are keen to build on the great work that is already taking place across the country, to ensure that people feel comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing, feel able to support their friends and families through difficult times, and that stigma no longer prevents people getting help they need.” – Heads Together Campaign, 2016.

Today the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry launched the Heads Together campaign. The launch took place in London at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the charity partners showcasing the wonderful work they do to end stigma, raise awareness and support those with mental illness.

You can read more about the Royal’s launching the Heads Together campaign over on the Young Minds website. And you can find out more about Heads Together, and sign up to join the campaign here: https://www.headstogether.org.uk/

Across all social media platforms Heads Together have a downloadable badge – which you can download to show your support. Start a mental health conversation today.

  1. I’ll be home alone all day today so I’ll only be able to converse about mental illness through my blog. Tomorrow I have a speaking engagement, though, and I’ll try and fit it in somewhere.

Sounds like so much is happening on your side of the pond regarding mental illness. I think that’s excellent.

    • Even speaking through blogging is a fantastic way to start a conversation, so thank-you for joining the conversation!

There’s a lot going on this week as it’s mental health awareness week, however the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, often work to raise awareness of mental health – it definitely encourages more people to start conversations!

  2. Reblogged this on Take It Easy and commented:
Although I’ve rather wandered away from my original purpose in blogging – to share my experience of depression in the hope that it would help others – I still occasionally acquire followers with the same interest. One such is Ella, who followed my blog a few months ago. She writes openly, honestly and, I believe, bravely about what she is going through. This week in the UK is Mental Health Awareness Week, and I’m sharing Ella’s post on it by way of introduction. I hope you’ll follow her blog too.
