Mental health helplines & support this Christmas

Mental illness doesn’t care whether it’s Christmas or not, (unfortunately) and you may find yourself struggling during the Christmas period while feeling as though you have no-one to turn to. Please try to remember that that’s not the case, and please please be kind to yourself.

Below I’ve listed some of the UK based support lines, I’ve included a variety of resources as I’m aware that some info and helplines have different opening hours throughout the Christmas period. I‘m not a professional, and it’s most likely that I’ll be hibernating this Christmas (my cat, Christmas food and my bed = the ideal excuse to hibernate for a bit).

However, I felt it may be useful to share some helplines and support resources.

  • MIND have a helpline, however it does have slightly different opening hours this Christmas, you can find more information here.
  • The Samaritans are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over the Christmas period. You can call them on 08457 90 90 90 or email jo@samaritans.org
  • SANE runs a national, out of hours mental health line, which is open from 6pm-11pm every day of the year. Click here for more information.

The Blurt Foundation have a fantastic archive of Support Links for those based within the UK. Check out their website here.

For helplines outside of the UK please check Dearest Someone’s Support & Resources page.

  1. Hope you have a lovely peaceful Christmas with time to recharge your batteries. Thank you for sharing through your posts. Thank you also for your list of recovery anthems, my husband put them on a disc for me and I listen to them every time I’m in the car. Karen xx
